Not all family trees are the same! Some families are well documented and many historical records are available on the internet. For others, few records exist or they can only be found in books, museums, courthouses, churches, etc., and they simply have not been digitized and put online. All of this affects the process.

We will meet online via Teams or Zoom or in person if you are in the Sioux Falls, SD, area to discuss your goals for your family research project. I will collect basic information including names of relatives, places they lived, etc., to establish starting references.

I will conduct initial research and determine the feasibility of meeting the stated objectives. I will present the early findings and we'll decide if we continue.

If we continue, we will establish clear outcomes and objectives. This would include defining the number of families and generations for whom information will be gathered, the amount and types of artifacts, etc. We'll also establish timelines for completing the project.

Research will commence to find the information we've agreed upon. I will reach out if clarification is needed or questions arise that are impacting the research and to keep you up-to-date on progress.

I will provide printouts of family trees and other research information (census records, obituaries, birth, marriage, & death certificates, etc.) per our agreement.
The initial consultation is free! This allows us to discuss what you're looking for (who and where). With this bit of information, I'll be able to make a preliminary determination on whether I'm going to be able to take on your project.
We will only move to this phase if I determine I can take on your project and be successful, or if you've asked me to continue anyway. I want to make sure I can deliver you what you're looking for about your family. Because information can be elusive, I break the research up into two parts: Initial Research and Full/Final Project.
Initial Research
This phase of research allows me to quickly search various archives and records and attempt to gather the major details of your family that you're interested in. This further allows me to determine the degree to which I'll be able to piece further your family's story. I will share these preliminary findings and again allow you to decide if we move forward so you're not wasting your money with nothing to show for it. Well finalize the scope and costs of the project at this time.
Complete Research
If we move to this stage, it means I am fairly confident I can find what you're looking for and deliver a valuable family history. We will have agreed on costs and deliverables.
Cost Estimates for Full Research Phase
This is in addition to the original discovery payment.
These are estimates based on my experience doing research and the final numbers will be based on our agreed upon deliverables.
Must be paid in full before final research and deliverables will be shared. Payment plans are accepted.
